Did you guys hear that something is happening in the sky tomorrow? Peak viewing for this area for the solar eclipse is supposed to be between 2 and 3 p.m. (specifically at 2:44 p.m.) Here's the rundown on where to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime event locally on August 21:
Amherst: Solar Eclipse Event, 1:20 p.m., astronomy professors on site to answer questions, four telescopes available for use, The Sunwheel, south of McGuirk Alumni Stadium, just off Rocky Hill Road (Amity Street) about one-quarter mile south of University Drive, UMASS, Amherst, FREE.
Erving: Solar Eclipse Day, 1:30-6 p.m., ice cream, games, eclipse viewing, outdoor movie, Erving Public Library, 17 Moore St., Erving, FREE.
Greenfield: Moonshadow Party, 1:30-3:30 p.m., live music, 100 pairs of safe viewing glasses available, Greenfield Energy Park, 50 Miles St., Greenfield, FREE.
Holyoke: Hidden Figures Movie Screening & Eclipse Viewing, noon - 3 p.m., film tells the story of three female NASA mathematicians, eclipse viewing to follow in library park, Holyoke Public Library, 250 Chestnut St., Holyoke, FREE.
Northampton: Eclipse Viewing in the Garden, 1:30-4 p.m., limited number of safe viewing glasses available, make a pinhole viewer, Systematics Garden, Smith College Botanic Garden, 16 College Lane, Northampton, FREE.
Pittsfield: Watch the Solar Eclipse at the Library, 2-3 p.m., create a pinhole eclipse viewer, watch a video about solar eclipses, learning activities, 100 pairs of safe viewing glasses available, Berkshire Athenaeum, One Wendall Ave., Pittsfield, FREE.
Springfield: Eclipse Viewing, 1-4 p.m., filtered telescopes will be available, safe eclipse glasses available, Stars Clubs of Springfield members will be on hand to answer questions, Springfield Museums Quadrangle, 21 Edwards St., Springfield, FREE.
