Any other slackers out there who have put off taking down the Christmas tree? I can't wait any longer -- my living room wants it's furniture back. I've also discovered an easier way to store the ornaments. I usually do the "wrap all the breakable ones individually in tissue paper" racket; however, this time I tried grouping ornaments by type and layering the groups between sheets of tissue paper. This method is much neater and seems like a more organized way to unpack next year:
I started with a layer of fabric ornaments to cushion the bottom of the tote and covered those with a few sheets of tissue paper. Then I started layering the ornaments by weight -- ceramic ones covered by tissue, then plastic covered by tissue, then the balls, then the priceless hand-made ones on top. I used the folded up tree skirt to cushion the top of the tote and carefully carried it to the garage for storage. I think unpacking will be a lot more fun next year. Happy organizing to my fellow slackers!
This is always such a job for me each year and each year my ornaments grow!

We keep our tree up as long as we can!! I try and save all of our ornament boxes to store them in and then I wrap our precious ones in tissue paper!!

I always take our tree down on New Year's Day. I have not been able to put up many of our breakable ornaments for the last 2 years. When Kitty was a kitten, she liked to climb the tree and toss the ornaments off. Kitty and I finally came to an agreement this year and she stayed out of the tree....but then a week before Christmas, we got a new kitten...and she was sooo excited about all the shiny toys. Maybe next year we can finally put our pretty breakable ornaments on the tree...it's a nice thought but highly unlikely. :)

It's definitely that time... I really need to get to mine but for some reason I am not interested in doing so. LOL

This is great information! We have just been throwing our ornaments into a plastic bin.

This sounds like a much easier & safer way of tackling this chore! We got our tree down but I need to organize & safely pack them still! My mom had heart surgery on the 2nd & we just moved here from another state & we still have more moving to do as well so I had the kids take the ornaments off! I'm definitely going to do this with mine though, thanks soo much for the tips!
